Far Bar is a distinctive fusion of an Asian-inspired restaurant and a lively cocktail bar nestled in the heart of Los Angeles at 347 1st St. This vibrant spot masterfully blends the rich culinary traditions of Japan and other Asian influences with a gastropub setting, offering an inviting atmosphere that seamlessly shifts from casual day drinking on the patio to energetic weekend evenings.
Step inside and you’re immediately drawn to the carefully crafted menu, where highlights such as Bibimbap and Pozole Ramen showcase authentic, soul-satisfying flavors, while favorites like California Roll and Fried Rice with Bacon capture the essence of Asian fusion comfort food. The Far Bar Wings and Wasabi Fries add a playful kick to the culinary experience, tempting your taste buds with bold, unforgettable spice and texture combinations that are as addictive as they are delicious. For those seeking indulgence, the Foie Gras and the Chef's Special Order Shrimp Alfredo Pasta exhibit the kitchen’s creative flair, delivering decadent layers of flavor that intrigue and satisfy.
But Far Bar’s offerings extend far beyond the plate. The cocktail lounge atmosphere is elevated by an impressive whiskey selection, carefully curated to appeal to novices and connoisseurs alike. Whiskey flights such as the prestigious Van Winkle Flight with Pappy Van Winkle reserves, and the "East Meets West" featuring Iwai Mars Whisky, Glenlivet 15, and High West American Prairie Bourbon, provide an immersive tasting journey. For cocktail lovers, the unique Old Fashioned variations like the Bacon Old Fashioned with fatwashed Knob Creek Rye and Szechuan pepper create an adventurous and memorable drink experience. Other refreshingly crafted cocktails like the Moscow Mule, Whiskey Sour, and Daiquiri add balance and vibrancy to the drink menu.
Guest reviews speak volumes about the warm, friendly ambiance Far Bar fosters. Patrons consistently mention the friendly and approachable bartenders who strike the perfect balance between engaging conversation and respectful presence, enriching the experience without overwhelming. The venue’s charm is especially palpable during its quieter morning openings, where the fresh air and lush patio setting provide a refreshing retreat in the midst of the city’s hustle—a feature one loyal visitor describes with affection and a true sense of peace.
Despite its popularity, especially on weekends where its bustling energy shines, the attentive service and intriguing menu options make Far Bar a must-visit destination. While parking in the area can sometimes be a challenge, the overall experience—combining craft drinks, innovative Asian fusion flavors, and a welcoming vibe—is more than worth the effort to find a spot.

This post is not about the food because without a doubt this place is great. Today I will say i came in and me and a group of coworkers were all having a great time, food and drinks were amazing but I cannot get over one gentleman's attitude tonight. Didn't catch his name tan fellow with a curly top. I understand if you guys are busy but he was very rude to one of our older coworkers. Uncalled for but like I said food was great. Haha wings were hittin too
Had a great meal here. Friendly bartenders. Chatty and friendly but not too much! Great wings! Got one of their fun drinks and it was really good. Switched to beers and also great.
Been coming to this bar for quite a few years and there’s been a few changes here and there. Overall though, it’s a bar I still very much enjoy on my days off or right after work. I love this bar in the morning when it just opens. Tbvh the BEST time to come. You get the special and get to enjoy their patio and the fresh air and plants. Love love loveee this place for that. Staff is really nice and attentive any time of the day. Great selection of cocktails and beers and always served with chilled glasses. Atmosphere is hip and chill and great for conversations or being alone. Food thoughhh hmmm Nawh I wouldn’t do it the fries yes. Idk since they changed their menu I’m not into it tbvh. Portions are too small for how pricy. Too many restaurants around to eat here, mainly a bar. For this review I got the shrimp tacos. Felt like shrimp you would put in top of pasta not tacos. Didn’t enjoy them sadly. The sushi is oki from here if you are looking to eat here.
Had an awesome meal here! The bartenders were super friendly—chatty enough to make it fun but not overbearing. The wings were delicious, and the specialty drink I tried was fantastic. Switched to beer afterward, and that was great too!
Fun place to have a cocktail and food. Interesting menu items. It gets very busy on weekends. We enjoyed appetizers and entrees. It's worth a visit. Parking can be a challenge in the area.
Thoroughly enjoyed Far Bar’s happy hour, which runs from 3-7pm Monday to Friday, and all day Monday. Best value play is the Burger Special ($13), which includes fries and a Sapporo or soda. Wings are also excellent. Will try their shrimp tacos next! Service is awesome and the vibes are casual yet with a classy decor (especially outside). Love this historic spot!
I was in L.A. on a business trip and stumbled across Far Bar while searching for a Happy Hour spot—and I’m so glad I did! The atmosphere here is incredible. I kicked things off with the spicy edamame and Ming’s Wings, both packed with flavor and absolutely delicious. What really makes this place stand out, though, is the vibe. The bartenders are not only skilled but genuinely friendly, offering great food and drink recommendations. The regulars at the bar welcomed me right in, making it feel more like a neighborhood hangout than just a stop on a trip. If you’re visiting Los Angeles and staying anywhere near Little Tokyo, Far Bar is a must. And take my advice—ask for Nate. He’s an outstanding bartender who makes the experience even better.
